Aura Satz: Dial Tone Operator Live

Saturday 15 November

Vocalists Elaine Mitchener and Jennifer Walshe improvise a live version of Aura Satz's Dial Tone Operator (2014), which looks back to the early days of telephony when calls were dialled by switchboard operators. This human intervention was later replaced by the automatic dial tone. In Satz's work the dial tone is composed into experimental drone music, evoking the underlying hum of the city and tuning in and out of human speech.

This live event for MIRRORCITY takes place in collaboration with Measure, and coincides with the launch of Aura Satz's project for Telephone, a programme of sonic compositions for the first red telephone kiosk situated under the entranceway to Burlington House, Piccadilly (19 September 2014 - 3 May 2015).
